1. Standard Installation Rates (Residential Only)

TEG does not cover or reimburse any of the following operational costs incurred by the installer, nor any direct or indirect losses or liabilities caused by the installer, including but not limited to:

  • Accommodation expenses for installation personnel
  • Fuel and vehicle usage costs
  • Insurance fees
  • Other indirect costs, such as tool wear and tear, equipment damage, or additional charges for remote installation locations.

TEG's standard installation rates are as follows (any changes will be communicated to all installers via email, and the updated rates will apply):

Roof Type: Tin Roof / Asphalt Shingle Roof / Membrane Roof (Including Tilt Mounting Kit) - (Applicable for roof pitch less than or equal to 27 degrees).

1.1 Solar Panels Installation:

  • 34.5 cents per watt (including GST), for total system wattage less than 10kW (Single Phase).
  • 32.2 cents per watt (including GST), for total system wattage between 10kW and 20kW (Single Phase or Three Phase).

Roof Type: Concrete Tile Roof / Gerard Roof / Stone-Coated Steel Roof - (Based on the above rates, an additional amount will be added for each bracket as follows:)

  • Concrete Tile Roof Brackets: $17.25 each (Incl. GST)
  • Gerard Roof / Stone-Coated Steel Roof Brackets: $11.50 each (Incl. GST)

1.2 Inverter Installation

  • Single Phase less than 8kW: $287.50 (Incl. GST)
  • Single Phase 8-10kW / Three Phase 10-15kW: $402.50 (Incl. GST)
  • Three Phase 20-30kW: $460.00 (Incl. GST)

1.3 AC Part Materials (Inverter and Mains Switchboard with 5 Meters)

  • Single Phase less than 10kW: $172.50 (Incl. GST)
  • Single Phase / Three Phase 10-20kW: $230.00 (Incl. GST)

1.4 Battery Installation

  • First Battery: $287.50 (Incl. GST)
  • Each Additional Battery: $115.00 (Incl. GST)
  • Essential Loads Backup: $287.50 (Incl. GST)
  • Gateway or Backup Box: $115.00 (Incl. GST)

1.5 EV Charger Installation

  • Single Phase or Three Phase: $287.50 (Incl. GST)

2. Payment Terms

  • The billing cut-off date is the last day of each month, with payment due on the 20th of the following month.
  • All required documents must be submitted before the billing cutoff date, and the job must be approved by the inspector.

3. Job Responsibilities

3.1. Site Assessment and System Evaluation

  • Site Assessment: Conduct a detailed assessment of the customer's property, including roof structure, orientation, tilt, shading, and the current electrical system.
  • System Evaluation: Conduct a detailed evaluation of the product list provided by the customer, including panel layout and quantity, inverter selection (single-phase or three-phase), battery installation location, and cable routing.

3.2. Obtaining Necessary Permits and Approvals

  • Distributed Generation (DG) Connection Application: Secure approval from the line company for grid connection.
  • Meter Replacement: Communicate with the power company to replace the smart meter.
  • Inspection: Schedule an appointment with the inspector and obtain approval for the installed system.

3.3. Pre-Installation Preparation

  • Complete all pre-installation preparations: This includes inspecting and receiving the main equipment provided by the customer (solar panels, inverters, batteries, etc.), providing mounting brackets, wires, conduits, and other auxiliary materials based on the equipment provided by the customer, scheduling installation times, and coordinating the installation team.

3.4. On-Site Installation

  • Panel Installation: Install the solar panels on the roof or ground-mounted system, ensuring they are securely fixed and properly aligned.
  • Electrical Wiring: Connect the panels to the inverter and integrate the system with the customer's electrical system, ensuring all connections are safe and comply with regulations.
  • System Integration: If applicable, integrate the battery storage system with the solar system and grid.

3.5. System Testing and Commissioning

  • Function Testing: Perform functionality tests to ensure all components are working correctly and the system is performing as expected.
  • Compliance Check: Ensure the installation meets New Zealand electrical standards and safety regulations, including but not limited to AS/NZS 5033.

3.6. System Activation and Customer Education

  • System Activation: Officially connect the system to the grid and start operation, ensuring it begins generating power.
  • Customer Training: Provide the customer with operating instructions, explaining how to use, maintain, and monitor the system.

3.7. Maintenance and Support

  • Regular Maintenance: Offer ongoing maintenance services to ensure the system operates efficiently over the long term. This may include panel cleaning, equipment checks, and software updates.
  • Customer Support: Provide continued technical support to address any issues or questions the customer may have during system operation.

3.8. Workmanship Warranty

  • Provide a 5-year workmanship warranty. If any issues arise due to installation problems within the warranty period, installation company will handle repairs free of charge.

4. Installation Company Certification Requirements

4.1 Certified Installers
Installers must hold the necessary certifications in compliance with local regulations, such as Registered Electrician Certification, and have completed solar system safety installation training, ensuring they possess the expertise to install solar systems.

4.2 Safety Training
Installers must undergo relevant safety training, including electrical safety, working at heights, and construction site safety, to ensure adherence to health and safety standards and protect personnel during installation.

4.3 Public Liability Insurance
The installation company must hold sufficient public liability insurance to cover potential property damage or personal injury that may occur during installation.

  • Residential: Starting from 300W.
  • Commercial: Starting from 2000W.

4.4 Quality Assurance
The company must establish a comprehensive quality assurance program to ensure the installation meets relevant building codes and achieves the expected system performance standards, ensuring customer satisfaction.

4.5 Continuous Professional Development
Installers should regularly engage in continuous professional development to stay up-to-date with latest technologies, industry practices, and solar system regulations, ensuring their installations meet the latest industry standards.

4.6 Environmental Responsibility
The installation company should commit to sustainable practices, minimizing environmental impact during installation, adhering to waste management protocols, and promoting the use of clean energy.

4.7 Good Reputation and Positive Reviews
The installation company must have a strong industry reputation and positive customer feedback, and must be capable of providing reliable services. The company’s demonstrated professional ability and problem-solving skills in past projects directly affect customer satisfaction and trust.

4.8 High Responsibility
The installation company must exhibit high levels of responsibility, treating each installation project as if it were for their own home. Attention to detail, quality, and safety is essential, ensuring each phase meets the highest standards, guaranteeing the system's long-term stability, and offering ongoing support to customers.
